Custom Replacement for Automotive K&N Air Filter

March 3rd, 2023

Back in the fall a custom engine tuning company reached out to us asking for a Custom Oval Air Filter to replace a K&N that currently does not fit on his set-up. He makes throttle bodies for the Porche 911. You can get an idea of what it looks like here which shows a double open end oval shaped filter that needs to accept the (3) air horns.

The customer also had his own custom machine shop and was open to building the molds if we could build the filter. We ended up exchanging files to design the mold per the attached air filter base provided by the customer:

Then we came up with the following design:

Custom air filter, final design

The customer was very happy with the design and proceeded to produce molds with 6061 aluminum with a sandblasted finish. Upon receipt of the molds that he machined at his facility we produced a 1st article sample was approved and we were able to fill an immediate need for filters he had on backorder.

Since that time this customer continually places order for these filters each year and has been very happy with the service we provided.
