  3. Varnish Treatment for Pharmaceutical Company

A large pharmaceutical company was having issues with the hydraulic system on a critical piece of testing equipment. The customer was experiencing stiction issues with bearings. Their oil analysis revealed that they had varnish present within the oil. The MPC showed a result of 56. The UC showed 4. To prevent downtime and costly service, we proposed using a 3% treatment dose of Decon from Fluitec. Previous service on this same unit had cost the customer roughly $1 Million dollars and took approximately 8 months for the equipment to be repaired.

The customer went with our recommendation and added the Decon to their reservoir in the beginning of January. Customer testing of the oil in the beginning of February indicated that the varnish situation was improving. The MPC showed 8 and the UC showed 1. Visual inspection of the equipment by representatives of the equipment manufacturer indicated that the plated varnish had been removed from the equipment surfaces. The customer will continue to monitor the oil but does not expect varnish to be a further issue. The customer will continue with their regular offline filtering of the reservoir using a PFP Drum Top Filter system to keep the oil within their targeted ISO Cleanliness Code of 13/12/7.
